Last month, we were proud to mark a major milestone in UniMed’s history - our 45th Anniversary! From humble beginnings in 1979 as a small health insurer with less than 10,000 Members, we’ve grown to become New Zealand’s third-largest health insurer, supporting 140,000 Members across the country.
|
|
|
For 45 years, we’ve stayed true to our not-for-profit values, championing Kiwi’s health care needs, and being focussed on helping people access much-needed health services.
Along the way, we’ve been privileged to make a difference, helping countless Members. From accessing life-saving heart surgery to critical cancer care, we’ve helped over 65,000 Members undergo essential surgeries. In addition, we’ve paid out over $1.2 billion worth of claims, ensuring people receive the healthcare they need when it matters most.
This year has been one of the biggest in our history. We welcomed 30,000 new Members through the transfer of Accuro Health Insurance to UniMed.

This has strengthened our reach and ongoing focus on helping to keep working New Zealanders and their families in lifelong good health.
